Ageing is an art

Two hours of positive vibes  I experienced today in the presence mill iyyer  thatha... He is 98 years YOUNG and flashes a loving smile as he recalls incidents from his life. He joined my grandfather as an accountant in our rice mill and retired there. My father is 20 years younger to him and he holds mill aiyyer thatha in great regard.

He wakes up at 4 am and does Japam till 8 am everyday. He is quite hard of hearing now, though he can read well. He got his cataract done at the age of 90 only! When I enquired about his knee pain he pointed to the tree in the street and  said " Look.. when the tree ages, it withers naturally. That's how human body is. We should let it BE and not intervene with unnecessary medications" ......

Food for thought as he narrated the story of parasara battar whose daughter  leelavathy was a maths genius. " Leelavathy mathematics " is a predecessor to Ramanujam mathematics. ... It was interesting to hear from him about the Vidyashankara  temple in Sringeri. This is a beautiful and interesting temple which bears a slight resemblance to an old Chariot. Standing on a richly sculpted plinth, this temple has six doorways. Twelve pillars surround the mandapa with figures of the twelve signs of the zodiac. They are constructed in such an ingenious way that the rays of the sun fall on each pillar in the chronological order of the twelve months of the Hindu calendar. Each column is topped by a Yali with a rolling stone ball in its mouth.
I  am looking forward to visiting this temple one day to pay tributes and wonder at the art, culture and tradition of our motherland...
As I drive back home, my mind scans all the old people who crib and cry over their bodily pains and complain about their  children. Ageing gracefully is an art and its important that we learn that too. Today I have learnt a valuable life  lesson  from this wise man.
