Children's day message for parents

Parenting circles and workshops are today much spoken about. And the need for them is felt by every young parent...... why ??

Why is something that was so intuitive and natural becoming more complicated inspite of the fact that every generation is smarter than the previous one??

On this occasion of children's day, I was pondering over this question. There may be many points of view. I wish to share mine very briefly.

These lines by Khalil Gibran are etched in my mind and I often recall it ( esp  when I am at cross roads while dealing with my teenage sons ! )

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,

Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams........

Till 21 years of age, they are CHILDREN.

If we preserve their  childhood  by providing age appropriate exposure to life skills , their inate talents will blossom naturally through adulthood. As an educator or as a parent, our task is to just  help them FIND THEMSELVES. We are mere  catalysts in their journey of life.

With single child families, helicopter parenting is quite common now-a-days. The child is burdened beyond his capacities and I see many instances where the child rebels in adolescence (in his or her own style).

LOVE AND LAUGHTER is all the child needs at home......

It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel  – L.R Knost

Let us cherish our children.

Let us accept them as they are.

Happy children's day ......
