Moments in connectedness
I was busy in the school garden, attending a phone call, giving instructions to the workers, multitasking at work. Suddenly, our teacher's son ran to me, pulled me by my hand, to everyone's surprise. Without questioning I followed, and he sat down. So did I. For a few moments both of us were silent....... Have you ever paused to observe a snail??
It is slow . Too slow for most of us. She carries her home on her back( just as we humans carry the burden of life) and retracts into her home whenever she seeks solitude. To be able to connect with our inner self is an art. Solitude is not loneliness. To stay alert and yet stay connected to our inner selves is the greatest challenge of today.
Young children can be totally lost in their play, for hours together. They possess the ability to move in and out of their shell. Seldom do adults give them that space. There are always tasks to be completed. " Do nothing " days are not a child's privilege anymore.
And I fondly recall the days I would climb the curry leaf tree in our backyard to escape from my mother. Especially at lunch time !
