To keep promise......

As I was glacing thro the newspaper over a cup of ginger tea this morning, the word  " promise" held my gaze. With elections round the corner, there are so many promises we read about. But, this was different.  Naturalist Nikhil Devasar writes about how he witnessed the  Oliver ridley moms laying eggs in the Orissa Beach. As the mothers return to the sea leaving the eggs in the custody of mother nature, he promises to them  that he would come back 45 days later to watch the safety of the baby turtles when they hatch.

A beautiful narrative that left me pondering about human nature. We live in a  progressive world replete with empty promises , and it is such gestures that remind us of the human qualities often forgotten. ....
