My mother tongue.....

This festive morning, on the occasion of Tamil new-year, I am contemplating on the erosion of native wisdom ....

Tamil culture, as we  know is  one of the oldest in the world. But many tamilians are ashamed to speak the  language. The spiritual and cultural heritage of a nation is passedon from one generation to the other through the mother tongue. Stories depicting daily life, songs around various festivals connect emotionally and touch the soul. When a language dies, so does the culture.......

My dilemma as an educator is to find the right balance. How can I equip our children to face the world with confident communication in English(no doubt it is the most spoken language in the world and it is very essential to master functional English) and still  hold his  mother tongue  close to his  heart ??

தாய்மொழியை உள்ளத்திலும்,

ஆங்கிலத்தை உதட்டிலும் வைத்து,

எம்   குழந்தைகள் மலர,

 அருள்புரிவாய் இறைவா!!🙏
